Marco Bezzecchi suffered a catastrophic start to the Jerez Sprint after running over a tear-off on the grid, the visor strip coming from Alex Marquez’s helmet before the race had even begun. The championship leader went backwards immediately, losing multiple positions off the line before his race unravelled completely as conditions deteriorated. Bezzecchi and teammate Martin both failed to score, handing Marquez a 12 point swing in the title race.
