Fabio Quartararo’s Hungarian Grand Prix ended in the pits without completing the race distance. Quartararo was running 16th after serving a long lap penalty when he retired to the pits. After admitting he had no motivation at Mugello, no grip at Balaton in practice and no answers from Yamaha on development, retiring from a race he was already last in summarises 2026 for the 2021 world champion. Honda next year cannot come soon enough.
The 2026 MotoGP championship took a dramatic turn at Balaton Park. Marc Marquez took 25 points out of Marco Bezzecchi’s title lead after winning the Hungarian Grand Prix while the Aprilia riders crashed out of the race at Turn 1. Bezzecchi remains the championship leader but with Marquez closing rapidly, Acosta in fourth and Di Giannantonio only six points clear of Acosta in third. Bezzecchi leads Martin by 20 points at the top. Six rounds. Everything is changing.
Jorge Martin’s Hungary nightmare began on the opening corner. Martin lost control under braking for Turn 1 and slammed into Aprilia team-mate Bezzecchi, also collecting Di Giannantonio, Raul Fernandez and Fermin Aldeguer in the carnage. Bezzecchi and Martin went to the medical centre with no fractures found. MotoGP Stewards announced a penalty for Martin after the race. Marquez immediately took 25 points out of Bezzecchi’s title lead thanks to the incident. At Motegi last season. At Balaton this year. Martin and team-mates do not mix well.
Marc Marquez went bar-to-bar with Pedro Acosta to secure his 100th grand prix victory in the 2026 Hungarian MotoGP at Balaton Park. Acosta was second. Bagnaia completed the podium. Ogura fourth. Marini fifth. Moreira sixth. Lecuona seventh. Miller eighth. Bastianini ninth. Binder tenth. Marquez took 25 points out of Bezzecchi’s championship lead in one afternoon. A century of grand prix victories. On a day that began with Turn 1 carnage. The champion is fully back.
Fabio Quartararo has delivered his most damaging verdict yet on the Yamaha V4 project. Quartararo said the bike feels exactly the same as it did when he first rode it in September 2025 and that he sees no reaction from the factory, adding that for a new prototype in its first season of development this is deeply concerning. Yamaha have publicly acknowledged the V4 has significant electronics and chassis issues that have not yet been resolved. He is going to Honda. He cannot leave fast enough.
Andrea Iannone won the Bagger World Cup at Mugello and immediately issued an open invitation to two of the sport’s biggest legends. Iannone called out Casey Stoner directly after his win, saying he is waiting for him and that they would have a lot of fun, adding that the bikes have no electronics and no aerodynamics. Iannone also thinks Rossi could be persuaded to race if a legend like Stoner were to join first. MotoGP’s most charismatic paddock reunion is getting bigger by the race.
Michael Dunlop has secured yet another historic victory on the Mountain Course, winning a delayed and shortened Supersport Race 1 at the 2026 Isle of Man TT. Despite lengthy scheduling disruptions and a reduced distance, Dunlop put on a masterclass aboard his machine to further extend his legendary status as the most successful rider in TT history.
The Isle of Man TT has delayed and reduced the racing schedule for the second day of race week. The Clerk of the Course confirmed the delay to the day’s programme following a review of course conditions. A reduced schedule will run in place of the original plan, with updated timings issued to teams, riders and spectators on the island. Further updates will follow from race control throughout the day.
Ai Ogura held nothing back after the Italian Grand Prix. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider admitted his overtake on Marc Marquez was not really clean, and said it was too late to change his mind when he realised he could not squeeze the brakes harder through the move. Ogura then came within 0.034 seconds of Bagnaia at the final corner in his charge for third, launching an ambitious last lap move that Bagnaia repelled on the run to the line.
Diogo Moreira keeps delivering quiet performances that deserve far more attention. The Brazilian rookie finished tenth at Mugello as the top Honda rider, outscoring factory Honda pair Joan Mir and Luca Marini who finished 12th and 13th. Moreira had held an early third in the sprint on Saturday before being passed by Di Giannantonio, demonstrating genuine race pace at a circuit nobody expected to suit a Honda rookie. LCR. Honda. Points every weekend. Moreira is becoming one of the quiet stories of 2026.
